P. Sainath has won the World Media Summit Award
P. Sainath is the winner of World Media Summit Global Award for Excellence 2014 in the Public Welfare category. The WMS awards are described as the “first comprehensive news awards covering multiple media formats, including press, photo, video and integrated media to honour “truth, objectivity and excellence” in journalism”. The World Media Summit is a new body with major news organisations involved from all across the globe:
P. Sainath has won the Public Welfare Award for Exemplary News Professionals in Developing Countries. An eleven member jury from different countries chose P. Sainath’s series on water from over 430 entries from 90 countries. This is the work he has done while he worked at The Hindu and reported on Maharashtra’s acute water crisis in 2013. This would be his 27th award / distinction for work done at The Hindu. Sainath left The Hindu – where he had been Rural Affairs Editor for over a decade — at the end of July this year.
